23-04-14' Sinus & Eye check KTPH
I was anxious for my appointments at KTPH to check on my sinus and my eyes.
Many thanks to Jing who guided me around and calmed my nerves.
I did my endoscopy today and the doctor feels that the mucosa lining looks well. The polyps are there and she's hoping that it'll go down with the steroid nasal spray. I'm all edgy thinking about doing the spray. Having goosebumps just with the thoughts of having liquid into my nostrils. Part of the reason I couldn't swim because I feel vulnerable breathing in water.
The endoscope started with an aesthetic spray into the nostrils and drips down into your throat. It has a bitter taste that makes you goes 'ewwww'. Next, the doctor used a small flexible tube with an intra camera to access your nostrils and snapping pictures of the nasal cavity as it navigates deeper. Certain parts felt a little uncomfortable, quite a contrary to what Nova described as 'fun'.
For the eye exam, it started with a visual check like what you'd do in an optical shop, followed by a machine to take your degree and a gentle wind blowing into each eye (which is to take your eye pressure, interesting huh).
Next the doctor did a consultation, asking more about the history etc. The nurse went ahead to drip an eye drop into my eyes to dilate my pupils so that the doctor could use an eye microscope to see better. It takes about 30 mins for the eyes to be sufficiently dilated and to be examined. The microscope uses a beam of bright light to shine into your eyes while asking you to look at different directions. He saw some faint spots on my cornea and these could be due to the eye infections I had with my lenses earlier this year. He suggested LASIK but that is dependent on whether my corneas are thick enough to go through that.
The doctors gave me a clean record (almost, except to review my sinus again in 2 months).
Alas, a heave of relief till much later.
